ONLINE COURSE CREDIT

Category B continuing education requirements cannot be met by taking any online course, even live webcasts.  201 KAR 8:140 classifies the category B course requirement as, "twenty (20) hours of scientific dental based courses given in a classroom presentation format."

The Board will not accept Certificates of Attendance indicating the course is "online," "online interactive," or "webcast" for category B credit.  Please feel free to contact the Board office with any questions regarding how a CE course will be classified for purposes of maintaining your Kentucky Dental or Dental Hygiene License.

Continuing Education Requirements

All dentists and dental hygienists are required to obtain 30 hours of continuing education every two years.

Category A

Maintaining certification in CPR is required.  The hours for CPR do not count toward your required 30 hours.  This is considered category "A."

ACLS courses are considered category "B," however dentists who hold Conscious Sedation permits or General Anesthesia permits may not apply these hours toward the 30 hour requirement.

KRS 313.080 (2) and 313.305 (2) require dentists and dental hygienists to take at least a 2-hour course on HIV/AIDS (approved by The Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services) once every ten years.  The board approves these hours toward the required 30 hours.  That is, HIV/AIDS courses may be counted as either category "B" or "C."
